Today Siena is 2 weeks old. She is doing brilliantly! She is on 4 hourly feeds of 70 mls. They started her on Domperidone because while she is having her feeds she is having a lot of desaturations. The Dr's think (only of course after both Lee and I told them) that she has acid reflux which is why she is having desaturations. Hopefully these will stop now that she is on the medication though. The burse today said if she can have all bottle feeds and not have anything down her tube for 48 hours then they would take her feeding tube out. At that point we would just be waiting for her to not have the desaturations before she goes home.
Also today I went to the hospital and sat with her for 3 hours by myself. While I was there with her I fed her a bottle at 1 and then she settled and went to sleep until 3 at which time she woke up and was rooting like crazy I decided to try nursing her, because when she gets home that is what I will do, and she did fantastic. She didnt desat at all while I was nursing her. She definitely got milk and more than anything we got some much needed bonding time. It made my day. It also made me a bit sad that I cant be there to feed her all the time because it just proved to me how much better it is for her than having a bottle. She has such better control and it just feels more natural for her. Plus the fact that she doesnt get any wind (she is so windy and doesnt like to give it up at all when I am trying to burp her) when I am nursing her. I just cant wait until she is home so I can have that special bond with her all the time. It wont be long now I am sure of it. Anyway here are some really cute pictures of her first bath.
