Spencers Surgery

Most of you will know that since Spencer was born he has had a blocked tear duct. Well last Thursday he finally had an operation on his eye to make it all better. We arrived at the hospital at 8am and straight away they put some cream on his had for his IV. I was dreading the IV because of our experience in the states. But this was so very different. The cream which they put on his had was AMAZING!  When they went and put the IV in he felt nothing. I showed him a book so that he couldnt see what they were doing and the next thing I knew he was asleep. He didnt make a sound. I seriously want to introduce that cream to the DR's in the states and I want to take it with me so that next time he needs to have an IV (we know there will be a next time, this is Spencer after all) I will have it to put on him before they give him the IV. Anyway he had his operation at about 9:20 and by 9:50 they were asking us to go up to recovery to get him. It was so quick! Spencer was a BEAR coming off the anesthetic! He cried for 2 hours straight and not only did he cry but he had no idea where he was and kept hitting, punching, scratching and just throwing a general Tauntrum. He was even asking from my mom. I couldnt believe that he remembered her being there at the hospital with us when we were in the states. But he kept asking for her over and over. (Man I miss her! He made me cry because of asking for her so much!) The good news is that Spencer's eye hasnt been sticky since we got home from the hospital. YIPEEEE!! No More wiping his eye 20 - 30 times a day. No More people looking at me like I am a bad mother for letting his eye get that bad and No More people asking me if he has conjunctivitis. WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!

I'm glad the surgery worked, and for your sake I hope you don't have to use that cream ever again!!

Hooray! I'm glad that everything worked out okay! The numbing cream sounds great! I think they do have in the States, but maybe you have to ask for it? I think this is what my cousin said (her little boy has had to have a number of surgeries as well!) Who knows, though! Anyway, I'm happy that Spencer is okay. He's a tough little guy!
