Toad in The Hole

So yesterday I mentioned on Facebook that I made Toad in The Hole for dinner and someone asked for the recipe. So I thought I would share it here. Thanks to my wonderful mother in law Susan for sharing it with me. And her secret to the most amazing Yorkshire puds in the world. Using her recipe mine now turn out AmAzInG!!

Toad In The Hole

Ingredients:

10 Sausages
7 oz Plain Flour
7 Eggs
Herbs (Whatever you like I used Basil and Oregano)
8 Fl Oz Milk
Lard (couple tablespoons)

Preheat the oven to 220 C. Fry the sausages until completely cooked. Set sausages on a plate with a paper towel to drain all the grease off. In a large bowl mix the flour with the herbs. Then add the eggs and the milk and mix really well. leave this to stand. Put the lard in a 9x13" cake pan and place the pan in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes. Take the pan out of the oven and add the sausages first (quickly) and then the flour and egg mixture. It should sizzle when you put it all in the pan because the grease will be hot. Bake for about 20 - 25 minutes. Dont open the oven until at least 20 minutes has passed. if you have a glass door on your oven dont open it at all until it looks done (like the picture above) The Pudding mix will double / triple in size so make sure you dont have it too close to the top of the oven of the rack above too close.

Serve covered in Gravy! I served it with mashed potatoes and vegetable. Yummy!

When I make Yorkshire puddings I use the same recipe of flour eggs and milk but put them in muffin tins instead. And this recipe makes them turn out perfect. Honestly the best puds ever!

That looks sooooo good!! Yeah, he sure was.. It was a lot of fun. After the tables your dad went over to Wheel of fortune and lost on that. That one is always a fun one to play. I tell ya he gets lucky cause he spins all the time on that thing...

Thanks! I was wondering what in the world that was. I think I will pass though I have had a very strong aversion to sausage ever since being pregnant with Will!

That is the funniest looking meal & name but it sure sounds good! Puds? Such a different way of talking and eating. I would LOVE to spend a week at your house and try all the different foods from there!

The only problem with your posting this for us Americans to read, is that it will never taste the same, because our sausages can't compare. Which is why I never make this over here. Although, I think I will give it a try with some Brat's and make it some Wisconsin Toad in the Hole. "Ay Dah! Holy Cripes that'll be nice." (Try saying that in your best nasal Wisconsin accent to be authentic.)
