Chip off the old....... Tooth?

So yesterday I was going to go with some friends to a toddler play place. When I got up in the morning I had a terrible Migraine, you know the kind where you cant see anything in your peripheral vision and makes you feel like you are going to be sick, yeah that is the kind of migraine. When I get them I am pretty much out of commission. Any noises or lights make it ten times worse. So we spent pretty much the whole day indoors with the curtains closed. I called my dear friend and cancelled on her last minute and decided that once Spencer fell asleep I would go for a nap too. Which didnt happen unfortunately. Then when Spencer woke up it was time to get him dressed so we could go and get Kaylee from school. Spencer decided that he didnt want to get dressed. He was flapping around when he stopped and looked at me for a minute and then hit me in the mouth with his little matchbox car. Straight away I knew that he had broken my tooth. I could feel it. I put him down (calmly might I add) and walked over to the mirror and looked at my tooth. I was right it hadnt come off yet but was definitely broken. Pretty much as soon as I looked at it the whole bit just fell off. I did what any woman 3,500 miles away from home with no family to help out on a day when she already felt terrible would do. I sat down and sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. See As you will know from a previous post I have been trying to get on a dentist list here in the UK for the past 4 years and NO ONE is taking on new patients. I phoned Lee and could hardly talk not only was I upset and not feeling good but my tooth was KILLING ME! Lee told me to ring NHS Direct and try to get an emergency appointment with a dentist. I did they gave me a number and when I rang they said "sorry but we are closed for the weekend" So I rang NHS Direct back they told me that someone would ring me this morning with an appointment. True to their word at 9:08 this morning I got a phone call from the dentist telling me to come in and they would have a look. Lee had to work this morning (he has a huge case loads to get through before we go to the states for a month) So I rang a few people in my ward to see if anyone would be able to watch the children for me while I went up there for an hour. And as most will know from previous posts no one in our ward likes us (this is not an exaggeration) And no one would come and watch the kids for me. Even when I was in tears begging no one was willing to come and sit with them for the hour while I went to the dentist. So I rang Lee's sister and her husband who live 25 minutes away. They asked for me to try to find someone else and if I couldnt then they would watch the kids. So I rang another woman in the ward and with no success range back my sister in law. Who came over straight away to watch the kids for me. When I got to the Dentist he said "This is much worse then it looks from the front. You have chipped the corner of the tooth off but all the pain is because you have also chipped the whole back of the tooth off and the nerve is completely exposed." He then told me that he could fix it temporarily and it would last a few days but that I need to get to a dentist as soon as possible to have it fixed properly. I explained that I dont have a dentist and what did they say... "Oh" I also explained that Lee, Kaylee and Spencer are registered at that practise and then I begged! I begged for them to please take me on as a patient. They said they didnt know and that they would get back to me on Monday (I have all my fingers and toes crossed that they will take me on Lee and I were joking that I should have flashed the man a bit of boob then he might have taken me on then and there.) The dentist said in order to fix it properly I need a crown on it which is going to cost £199.50. My jaw dropped. Wait I thought this was NHS I thought we were only supposed to pay for a portion of the dental work and then go from there. So here it is Saturday night and Im in limbo. Im not too sure what Im supposed to do. I just know that I have a tooth with a jagged break so everytime I open my mouth it tears up the inside of my lip and an exposed nerve so anytime I breath or eat hot or cold things it KILLS!! My sisters mother in law works for a dentist so she is going to talk to them and see what they can do for me while I am there. It is likely the Dentist there will be able to reconstruct my tooth with a white filling for a fraction of the price. It just means I have to wait the rest of this month until I can get it fixed. I sure love Spencer and the fact that he is starting his terrible twos. Its such a Joy!
