So every morning I get up about 6:00 am take Lee to the train station around 6:50 get back get the kids ready and it is off for our walk to school around 8:50. Today all that was like any other day. Spencer in the pushchair Kaylee walking along side. We were a few minutes late so maybe we were walking a little quicker than normal. We got to school and Kaylee's class was starting to go inside for the morning session of Nursery. Then as usual Spencer and I walked over to the shops. I had to post a package off and buy some juice for the kids (we were getting a bit low) and again all that is normal. Next part of our morning routine was a walk to the bakery. Everyday... well almost every day I buy Kaylee a cupcake form the bakery ( I should probably stop but it is her little treat) this morning when I went to the bakery there was no queue (line for my fellow americans) like there normally is other than one little old lady who was buying herself a sausage roll. This is where my normal every day morning changed.
The woman behind the counter passed over the sausage roll to the elderly lady and said that is 65p please. so the little old lady (probably mid to late 80's) put a 50p coin on the counter. The Lady behind the counter again very gently said it is 65p love (they say love in Wigan loads) the little old lady searched her purse and finally said, with a shaky voice, I am sorry I don't have enough and turned to walk away. I had more than the 15p that this lady needed I had £2. so I said don't worry you take it (meaning the sausage roll) and I will make up the difference. I passed the woman behind the counter one of my pound coins. What happen next was so cool for me. The little old lady turned and with a single tear rolling down her cheek said thank you. I passed her back the 50p coin that she had originally put up on the counter and said I will take care of all of it for you today. She smiled at me took my hand and thanked me again for such a small thing. the gratitude this little old woman had was so much. I then bought Kaylee her cupcake with the remaining money which I had and walked home.
The whole way home I couldn't help but think about this little old woman. And even as I type this blog there is a feeling that is unexplainable a feeling of complete happiness. I have helped people before on many occasions. But this is the first time I have sat back an thought this must be what the Saviour felt like every time he helped someone. This feeling of wanting to rush out and help everyone in the world. To bring a little ray of light a little bit of hope to others that there are still nice people out there. That Heavenly Father through others preforms little miracles. Maybe today for a small moment I was the miracle that little old woman needed. And not only the woman but maybe the people working in the shop. 3 of them just watched me as I paid for this lady's sausage roll. Maybe just for today I was able to bring a little bit of Christ to all 4 of these women. Everyday these women in the Bakery see me and I smile at them and make small talk (which is different from the people who live around here, trust me they are more likely to get things thrown at them then to get a smile) Maybe someday the acts of kindness which I show to these people will make them wonder what it is that makes me a happy person and want to have the same feelings of the Savior's love in their lives

Wow, that is a really cool and inspiring story! Thanks for sharing! It's amazing what service can do for those providing the service -- it truly does bring joy and happiness to those giving the service. Sometimes when I am feeling bad about life I just have to stop and think about what I can do for someone else and it really changes how I feel. We love you and miss you guys! You are such an amazing and kind person Alisha!
