The Value of a Dollar ..... Or Pound Depending on where you live

So the other day Kaylee found a pound. She was so excited. See at 5 years old my daughter can not hold on to a single penny for more than a few minutes. After the few minutes have passed she has then decided what she is going to buy with the penny and where she is going to buy the item from. She has little knowledge of the worth of a coin or a bill. All she knows is that you can take it to the store and buy something with it. Up until now no matter how much money she has I have always just added the extra money she needs to purchase whatever it is she want, within reason of course. Occasionally I will buy the items she wants with my other groceries and put her money in my purse. And Once we arrive home she will say to me ok I would like my money back now. When I tell her she spent her money she will accuse me of stealing her money because she saw me put it in my purse and I have to explain (ok like a million times I have had to do this) that I paid with my money and that her money is now mine.

Well when she found this pound I decided that she can spend it how she likes but that I am not going to add any of my money into the purchase. We walked around Asda the other day for 45 minutes trying to find something she would want for only £1. First she wanted a pre made Sponge Bob Cake (She is obsessed with Sponge Bob at the moment, even though I hate her seeing it). Then she wanted puppy in my pocket, an art set, some little toy for Spencer, icing, etc etc. Finally we found a box of cakes which was on sale for £1.00. She was so excited. I let her put them in her shopping basket. We took them to the self check out and she did everything. Then when we got home after dinner and for FHE we made her cakes. I told her she didnt have to share them if she didnt want because she bought them with her own money but she did share them. And hopefully a little lesson has been learned about the value of a dollar.... or a pound depending on which country we are living in.

A good lesson to learn. We are just starting to teach Ed a little about this! Love the Dora cakes...I may have to get some of those, the girls would go mad for them!
